The major news media frequently attack the organic industry, citing the health benefits you get are in fact negligible.
And they’ll go on to show how chemicals and GMO foods aren’t nearly as damaging as claimed.
But you have to remember, organic foods are a serious threat to big-time companies who support traditional farming methods with chemicals that make them billions.
Those big companies have a lot to lose. And they have the big dollars to make sure their stories get heard throughout the major news media.
But, here’s two chemicals that cannot be used in organic farming at all. And at the same time, traditional farming uses them in great abundance.
Check them out:
- GlyphosateYou can find this in the most widely used herbicide in the entire world. Food Democracy Now! and The Detox Project did a joint report which found high levels of glyphosate in many common foods. It’s the first independent study done that analyzed many leading food brands in this respect. While glyphosate has been claimed to be one of the safest chemicals in the market, the World Health Organization has also called it “probably carcinogenic to humans.”
Research from studies on humans is limited. Some have concluded the herbicide of which glyphosate is a component is actually responsible for harm to humans, and that isolated glyphosate by itself is no health risk at all.
The bottom line: organic food contains no glyphosate, which guarantees you won’t be exposed to this potentially harmful chemical.
- AtrazineIt’s the second most popular herbicide in the US. The Switzerland company who manufactures the chemical actually can’t even sell it in Europe because the European Union banned its use. Many American organizations advocate against it, but so far the chemical remains legal. In humans, it can increase your risk of miscarriage, reduce male fertility, greatly increase the risk of any birth defect, and it leads to a higher incidence of abdominal effects.
The EPA has passed a bill recommending the reduction of atrazine use to less than three times current levels and seven times less than what scientific studies consider acceptable.
Up to this point, the EPA has not succeeded in banning atrazine. However, they have not changed their stance on the chemical’s use.
Again, regardless of how dangerous atrazine really is, you’re not exposed to any of it when you eat organic.
The use of traditional farming methods that include chemicals versus organic farming will rage on for some time.
And when you go organic, you know for sure you are not exposed to even the possibility of consuming harmful chemicals.
