The Healthiest Way to View Using Natural Supplements
Have you ever heard of a “wonderful new miracle drug?” All kinds of prescription medications and natural supplements get advertised this way.
What sells about it? It’s simple and easy. You don’t have to do anything. You simply take the drug as prescribed, and you get the results.
But, that’s not how natural supplements or prescription drugs work. In fact, they are one part of a complex biochemical process.
Most people view prescription drugs and natural supplements as having a cause-effect relationship. You take the pill and experience the benefits. A disease goes away. Or, you feel supercharged and ready to go.
That’s not true at all.
Dr. Jonathan St. George of the Weill Cornell Medical College told Mens Journal this about prescription medications:
“But most chronic diseases involve a complex chain of biochemical reactions…[I]f I told my patients that the drug I was prescribing them had only a 20 percent chance of working, they’d look at me like I was crazy.”
The article continues to explain that with statins, 60 people would have to take such a drug for five years to prevent one person from having a nonfatal heart attack. But not a single death would be prevented.
Prescription drugs get promoted so easily, adds the Mens Journal article, because 80% of published drug studies are funded by drug companies.
What Your Behavior Should Be
Prescription drugs and natural supplements do offer benefits. But anytime you start believing the drug or supplement will cure you, without you making any lifestyle changes, you’re putting yourself in danger.
So far, no prescription drug or natural supplement works like that. They might in the future, but they don’t right now.
With natural supplements, and prescription medications, the healthiest way to use them is to live a healthy lifestyle first. Then, once you’re doing all the right things but not getting the results you want, add in supplements and prescriptions where necessary.
Supplements can be a nice boost to an already healthy lifestyle. However, they can give you false security if you choose to live an unhealthy lifestyle and rely on them to “fix” you.
So just keep that in mind as you consider various supplements. We want to be honest with you and make sure you have a realistic, down-to-earth understanding of supplements and their proper role in your life. Living with real integrity is the only way to go.
