The Best Gluten-Free Pasta Alternatives
Gluten-free pasta is all the rage lately. People are looking for traditional pasta alternatives for a number of reasons. Certain diets like Keto, Paleo, and gluten-free diets are not allowed to consume any wheat, which means white flour and whole wheat flour are off limits.
Since traditional pasta is made from wheat flour, if you cannot eat gluten for whatever reason, you will need to seek a pasta alternative. Luckily, gluten-free foods are increasingly popular, and some really terrific brands and products are coming on the market. Many years ago, there were very few gluten-free options and they often left flavor and texture something to be desired.
However, there are now heaps of amazing gluten-free kinds of pasta on the market that you can find online and in most supermarkets all across the United States. Not all gluten-free pasta are created equal though, so we have found the best gluten-free pasta alternatives that taste the most like regular pasta and also don’t have that weird, chewy, and gummy texture that so many gluten-free pasta tend to have.
Banza is by far one of the best gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO pasta alternatives on the market. It is only made with protein-packed chickpeas, there is not flour, common allergens, and there is no gummy texture when cooked. Banza comes in lots of different pasta shapes, so you can switch it up any time you like.
Barilla is a brand that many people know and love. In recent years, they have come out with their own gluten-free pasta, and it truly does not disappoint. There is no gummy taste or texture and it holds up during the cooking process perfectly. Honestly, you can hardly tell it is not regular flour-based pasta. It is not organic, but it is made with non-GMO corn and rice blend.
Andean Dream is a gluten-free pasta that is USDA Organic, made from quinoa and rice. It cooks up closely to regular pasta and has a great mild flavor with nothing chewy, gummy, or off about it. Quinoa is often touted as a superfood and is packed with protein, making it a good choice if you are looking for a portion of pasta with some more protein than other gluten-free pasta options.
This gluten-free spaghetti is made from black beans and is a deep black color. It is filled with plant-based protein, is organic, and a great option if you want something with a lot of protein per serving.
Taste and texture are quite good, but some people may find they are not too crazy about the taste and texture. It is something left to personal preference. This pasta has a little more of a “bean” flavor since black beans have a more distinct flavor than other beans like chickpeas. If you do not mind the flavor and pair this pasta with a sauce that has lots of flavors, then you may just find black bean pasta to be the best option for you!
These 100% buckwheat soba noodles are the perfect gluten-free pasta for any Asian inspired noodle dish you are whipping up in the kitchen. You can pair thee soba noodles with rich broths, veggies, chicken, seafood, and just about anything else.
If you are into fresh pasta that tastes exactly like regular pasta, is not gummy, cooks in 3 minutes, and is just downright the best, Trader Joe’s gluten-free egg pasta is your new go-to. The pasta is fresh, it is soft and delicious in texture, and you will have absolutely no clue it is not regular pasta. You can make it with any sauce of your liking or simply eat it with some parm and butter and you are good to go!
