Here’s Why You Need to Limit Your Dairy Consumption
You have probably found yourself here because you are considering limiting the amount of dairy you consume or want to cut it out altogether. It can be a confusing decision because some people say that consuming dairy is fine and actually good for you, while others claim the exact opposite.
While whether or not to eat dairy is a personal decision, however, there are a few solid reasons why you should limit or eliminate dairy from your diet. From increased cancer risk to weight gain, dairy sure does have some big risks.
In this post, we will take a look at the top reasons to limit dairy in your diet and what you can do to replace some of the dairy items you eat on a regular basis.
Increased Cancer Risk
Eating too much dairy can increase your risk of developing prostate, breast, and ovarian cancer. A study done in China, called The China Study and run by Dr. T. Colin Campbell, found that casein, found in all dairy products, is one of the biggest cancer triggers that has ever been discovered.
With some many great tasting dairy alternatives on the market, you can still eat cheese, ice cream, coffee creamer, and all of the good stuff you love, but in a way that does not increase your cancer risk in the process.
If you are drinking conventional milk and eating other food products made with conventional milk, chances are you are also ingesting a lot of growth hormones. Dairy farms give their cows steroids and hormones in an effort to make the cows bigger, stronger, and plumper so they produce more milk and live for longer.
One of the worst offenders is rBGH growth hormone. It is associated with a variety of health impacts for both cows and humans.
Unless you are buying organic milk, grass-fed milk, and/or pastured milk, you are drinking a cup of GMOs. Conventional milk comes from cows that have eaten a diet filled with GMO feed from corn, soybeans, and animal by-products. These crops also contain pesticides and herbicides that leach into the cow’s bloodstream and other bodily fluids, including their milk.
Poor Skin Appearance
If you are struggling with acne, oily skin, dry skin, and poor skin texture, dairy may be the culprit. Dairy contains hormones that are similar to testosterone and this can stimulate the production of oil in the skin. Skin that is oilier means your risk of acne and other skin issues is increased as well.
Limiting or eliminating dairy from your diet may just clear up your skin and leave you with a clear and glowy complexation.
Bloating and Bad Digestion
If you suffer from bloating and have other digestion issues, and still have dairy in your diet, this may be the cause of your issues. In fact, about 60% of the population cannot handle lactose from milk and most people are completely unaware.
If you stop eating dairy and you do have a lactose intolerance, then you will feel a significant difference in your bloating levels ad overall energy.
Practical Ways to Go Dairy-Free
You can either significantly limit the amount of dairy in your diet or you can go dairy-free and commit. Whichever option you choose, there are some truly great dairy alternatives on the market. You do not have to give up cheese, yogurt, ice cream, coffee creamer, butter, and any other form of dairy you typically consume.
