Differences Between Plant-Based and Vegan Diet: Everything You Need to Know
Have you ever wondered if there are differences between plant-based and vegan diet? If you have, you are not alone. While it sounds like both diets may be the same thing, they are not.
In this post, we are going to look at the similarities and differences between a plant-based diet and a vegan diet, so you can finally know the differences and decide which option would best fit your needs and lifestyle.
Let take a look at everything you need to know about these two diets!
How they are similar
There are a few characteristics that make these two diets similar.
The most significant connection they have is they both focus on eating food from plants—foods like veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, whole grains, beans, legumes, etc.
The other one is that they both avoid consuming dairy, eggs, meats, and seafood.
How they are different
On their differences is when things start to get interesting.
Vegans will never have any meat, seafood, eggs, dairy, honey, or any other product that comes from animals. And it includes animal by-products found in ingredients in makeup, skincare products, haircare, and more.
On the other hand, people following a plant-based diet have a heavy focus on avoiding meat, dairy, eggs, and other animal products. Still, they will choose to eat them in moderation when they feel like it. Overall, animal products are not entirely off-limits, but they are significantly reduced.
At the same time, some people choose to follow a plant-based diet of consuming food 100% from plants; of course, at this point, they are mostly just vegan.
Which option is the best choice for you?
Deciding which diet to follow is going to be entirely up to your preferences, beliefs, values, and more. Some people choose to follow a vegan diet for ethical reasons, health reasons, or because they need to due to a medical condition.
Some people have very similar views and needs, but cannot fully commit to a 100% animal-free lifestyle. Therefore, choosing a plant-based diet that focuses more on plants and less on meat and animal products works for them much better.
There are no rules when it comes to following particular diets. You are free to choose what you want to do and how you want to follow a diet. It is up to you to make adjustments and make a specific nutrition habit work for you.
You can decide to mainly follow a vegan diet, but if there are a few times you want to treat yourself to a regular ice cream or burger, you are free to do that if you’d like. You shouldn’t be judged based on how you choose to live your life or what foods you want to eat and don’t.
Above all, you are free to follow a diet plan with any flexibility you want, which is the fun and open part of eating, diets, and lifestyle.
