Benefits of Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy gets attention here in the West. But it doesn’t necessarily get its full due.
Typically, it’s thought of as a more Eastern treatment. However, it’s gaining steam here in the United States.
So if you’ve thought about various aromatherapy products, but haven’t necessarily fully bought into them, here are some benefits that might get you to at least try to this approach to improving your health:
1. Stress Relief
We may have more technology and greater productivity in 2018. But, Americans also have much more stress.
Aromatherapy is a fantastic stress reliever. And it’s one you can even take with you in your car.
Lemon oil, lavender, peppermint, and ylang-ylang are essential oils with strong stress-relief properties.
2. Act as Antidepressants – WIthout Side Effects
America has plenty of medications designed to relieve stress. But, they don’t come without risk. Antidepressant side effects can include nausea, increased appetite, weight gain, loss of interest in sex, fatigue, drowsiness, and insomnia, among others.
Aromatherapy does not cure depression. Counseling should be sought. However, it does help relieve the symptoms.
Peppermint, chamomile, lavender, and jasmine are the most effective essential oils to use to reduce depressive symptoms.
3. Boost Your Memory
Do you forget all sorts of short-term odds N ends that you know should be somewhere in your head?
Rosemary and sage have been shown to help with short-term memory. Sage especially has been proven to improve memory for younger people for a limited time following inhalation.
4. Boost Your Energy Levels – Without Negative Side-Effects
Coffee, pills, and heavily marketed drinks all get used to boost energy. However, long-term reliance on these substances can cause harm to your body.
Aromatherapy can boost your mental and physical energy but without harmful side-effects.
Black pepper, sage, rosemary, cinnamon, jasmine, and tea tree can all give you a nice jolt.
5. More Restful Sleep
While our society as a whole places more value on productivity than sleep, getting a healthy night’s rest does wonders for your mind and body.
Lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang help you feel more rested after sleeping.
6. Pain Relief
Lavender relieves headaches – including migraines (to a degree). Chamomile helps with muscle and joint pains.
Peppermint relieves nausea, indigestion, and stomach aches. Eucalyptus decongests clogged sinuses. Juniper fights hemorrhoids, colitis, and dysmenorrhea.
Cayenne relieves more intense types of pain – including that caused by shingles.
Clearly, aromatherapy can do a lot – and it might be more effective than some expensive medications you take. And this isn’t a complete list of all of the aromatherapy’s benefits.
However, it’s enough to get you to consider to at least try aromatherapy to improve your quality of life.
