A Simple Guide to an all Organic Thanksgiving Dinner
Thanksgiving is a special holiday that you should celebrate to the fullest with friends, family, and the most delicious and comforting food possible. Thanksgiving should not be a day that focuses on worrying about what you are eating, how much you are eating, or if that serving of stuffing will exceed your calories for the day.
However, that does not mean the quality of your food had to suffer or take a backseat. While you should not be worried about the calories or the amount of sugar in your slice of apple pie with ice cream, you should consider how many pesticides, chemicals, and toxic ingredients may be lurking in the food on your dinner plate.
Your focus should be on preparing a Thanksgiving dinner that is natural, organic, and uses high-quality ingredients. If you are going to eat heaps of food on that day, your belly is going to feel overstuffed and bloated anyway. You don’t want to make your gut feel even worse by pumping it full of pesticides, artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
To avoid all of the nasties, here are a few tips you can use to make a delicious organic Thanksgiving dinner that everyone is going to love.
Plan Your Menu Well in Advance
The worst thing you can do is wait until the very last minute to think about what you are going to make for your Thanksgiving dinner. You will not have the best pick of ingredients, a lot of items will be sold out, and your ability to find organic options could be challenging.
If you plan every dish you are going to make 3-4 weeks in advance and write out your ingredient list for each item, you can gradually do your shopping at the grocery store. You will have an abundance of options to choose from and can have the first picking of the options you want the most. You can begin with buying all of the ingredients that are not perishable and when it gets closer to Thanksgiving Day, you can begin to buy produce and other items that can go bad quicker.
Buy as Much Locally as Possible
Buying locally is a great way to get extremely fresh and healthy ingredients at a bargain price. If you have a local organic farm, you can get items like pastured or organic turkeys, pumpkin, squash, milk, cream, eggs, meats, and much more. These bigger ticket items cost much more in the grocery store, so you can save heaps of money buying locally. Plus, you can feel 200% confident knowing the food you are buying is healthy and safe.
Find Items on Sale
If you cannot shop locally, and for the items you will need to buy in the supermarket, finding as many items on sale as possible will help you save money as well. Preparing a whole dinner with organic ingredients could get pricy, but you can keep the cost down by shopping on-sale, locally, and mindfully whenever possible.
Mindful shopping would mean that pecans are $15.99 per pound and you were going to make a few pecan pies. You can quickly decide that is far too much money to shell out on pecans (pun intended) so instead, you decide to replace it with pumpkin and apple pies. Organic pumpkin is only $1.99 per can and honey crisp apples are on sale for $2.50 per pound. You can save a good chunk of change by opting for a less expensive ingredient if you find your original plan is not going to work.
If you plan to shop online, please consider Healthy Nature Green for those pecans.
Make as Much Food from Scratch as Possible
Last but not least, make as much of the food yourself and with your family and friends as possible. Buying premade pie shells, already mashed potatoes from the freezer section, pre-sliced apples, pre-diced sweet potatoes, etc. gets very expensive very quickly. Skip out on all of those pre-made and sliced and diced items and do it yourself! You will save a lot of money and you can make some great memories with family and friends in the kitchen.
Once you have planned your menu, order the needed items in advance from Healthy Nature Green. Thank you,
