Whether or not you choose to indulge in alcohol on occasion is a personal choice. However, if you do, there are both better and worse ways to go about sipping a delicious cocktail. Many cocktails are filled with heaps of refined sugars, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and chemicals you would not normally think of ingesting.
People often do not realize the brand of alcohol they choose to drink matters as well. Most spirits are made from plants and ingredients that are not organic, not non-GMO, and are grown with pesticides and other chemicals. You should drink organic spirits, wine, and beer for the same reason you would choose to eat organic food, which is to reduce the number of chemicals and pesticides you expose your body to.
Spirits are often made from foods like wheat, potatoes, cane sugar, grapes, and barely, all of which are very often GMO, sprayed with Roundup, a known human carcinogen, and contain very concentrated levels of pesticides.
All of this to say, choose organic spirits, beer, and wine! You will drastically limit any chemicals in your alcohol, there will be no scary fillers, flavors, or dyes, and it is overall a healthier choice if you do decide to drink alcohol.
Summer is the perfect time to sit outside with your loved ones and sip on light, fruity, and floral cocktails. In this post, we have compiled some of the yummiest floral cocktails for summer that are easy to make, do not use refined sugar, and are a healthy take on your classic sugar-filled drink. Of course, choose all organic ingredients!
Put a fun flowery twist on a refreshing minty mojito with some elderflower liqueur. Rum, fresh mint leaves, freshly squeezed lime, and simple syrup are blended together for a smooth, perfectly balanced drink.
*Tip: To make this cocktail, or any of the cocktails in this post, refined sugar-free, make your simple syrup with either honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar.
This gin-based cocktail uses Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, egg white for creaminess, and bachelor’s button flower petals to make a sweet, sour, and floral cocktail that will make you feel like you are frolicking through the prettiest of flower fields.
If you want a flowery cocktail that also incorporates sweet fresh herbs, this is the cocktail of your dreams. Fresh basil, borage blossoms, limes, gin, and honey make for a super refreshing and slightly green drink that will almost make you feel like you are healthy!
Pink wine and pink rose petals? This drink is ideal for a bridal shower, girl’s night, or just because. Rose wine, rose petal simple syrup, elderflower liqueur, mint leaves, and lemon are mixed together for a one-of-a-kind stunning pink sangria that is truly a show stopper.
Chamomile tea, honey, whiskey, orange, lemon, and optional fresh chamomile flowers for garnish are wonderful flavors that all mesh perfectly. This drink is light and refreshing, but the whiskey really gives it a kick. Additional benefits include relaxing properties since chamomile is known for its stress and anxiety fighting properties.
If you do not like the flavor of whiskey, vodka and gin would be fine substitutions.
Anything with cucumber in the warm summer weather is good for the soul! This cocktail uses fresh cucumber juice, mint leaves, fresh lemon, agave, and honeysuckle vodka to create one of the most refreshing and flavorful drinks.
We recommend making your own honeysuckle vodka with fresh honeysuckle flowers if possible. That way, you can use your favorite brand of organic vodka!
